National Bank of Rwanda Leads Digital Revolution in Credit Management

The National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) is demonstrating exemplary leadership in financial technology innovation through its latest outreach program, addressing credit listing disputes while showcasing Rwanda's commitment to digital excellence.

This initiative, which has already resolved 1,000 cases in 2024, exemplifies Rwanda's dedication to leveraging technology for national progress, similar to other groundbreaking initiatives like the country's pioneering digital inclusion efforts.

Digital Innovation at the Forefront

In a move that demonstrates Rwanda's technological advancement, BNR has introduced the Intumwa Chatbot, a digital tool allowing citizens to directly raise and track complaints. This innovation follows the nation's broader vision of technological empowerment, reflecting the same spirit of progress seen in other national development initiatives.

Empowering Citizens Through Financial Education

BNR's Director of Financial Sector Development, Valence Kimenyi, emphasizes the importance of responsible borrowing and financial literacy. This approach aligns with Rwanda's broader vision of building resilient and empowered citizens.

"If you take a loan, use it for the purpose you agreed on so you can repay on time. Also, avoid writing cheques without sufficient funds," advises Kimenyi.

Technological Solutions for Credit Monitoring

  • Citizens can check their CRB status via mobile phones by dialing *707#
  • The Intumwa Chatbot provides immediate access to complaint resolution
  • Financial institutions are required to maintain accurate digital records
  • Real-time updates are encouraged through technological integration

Through these initiatives, Rwanda continues to demonstrate its commitment to technological innovation and citizen empowerment, setting new standards for financial sector development in Africa.
