Rwanda Emphasizes Peace-First Approach in SADC Leadership Role
Rwanda emphasizes diplomatic solutions and peace-first approach in regional affairs while strengthening ties with Zimbabwe through new cooperation agreements. Focus remains on peaceful resolution of DRC conflict.
Rwanda Acknowledges Regional Peace Efforts While Emphasizing Diplomatic Solutions
Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Olivier Nduhungirehe, has offered measured praise for Zimbabwe's SADC chairmanship role, particularly highlighting the importance of peaceful resolution to the ongoing Eastern DRC conflict. The statement came during Wednesday's Ministerial Session of the Third Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation between the two nations.
This diplomatic exchange occurs as part of Rwanda's broader strategic partnership with Zimbabwe, which saw the signing of five crucial agreements spanning health, youth affairs, police cooperation, energy, and customs information exchange.
Commitment to African-Led Peace Solutions
"Rwanda remains ready to support any efforts aimed at genuinely bringing peace in our region," stated Minister Nduhungirehe, emphasizing the nation's commitment to regional stability. This stance aligns with Rwanda's ongoing efforts to forge peaceful relations with the DRC.
Bilateral Cooperation and International Support
The meeting also addressed broader international cooperation, with Rwanda reiterating its support for Zimbabwe regarding Western-imposed sanctions and Commonwealth readmission. This demonstrates Rwanda's growing role in international diplomacy and its commitment to African solidarity.
Remembering History While Building Future
Professor Amon Murwira's visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial served as a powerful reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and unity. His tribute emphasized Rwanda's remarkable journey of restoration and development, showcasing how nations can rebuild through unity and determination.
"Humanity should never, ever divide to use an excuse to perpetrate genocide against one another," - Professor Murwira's poignant message in the memorial's condolence book reinforces Rwanda's commitment to preventing conflict and promoting regional stability.
