In a significant stride towards national infrastructure excellence and economic empowerment, Rwanda has secured a $45 million concessional loan from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA). The strategic funding, signed in Kigali on October 6, 2025, demonstrates Rwanda's commitment to sustainable development and strengthening its position as a regional economic leader.
Strategic Water Infrastructure Enhancement
The investment allocates $20 million to revolutionize the Karenge Water Treatment Plant in Rwamagana District, showcasing Rwanda's dedication to infrastructure excellence. This development aligns with the nation's vision of ensuring water security and dignity for its citizens.
"The expansion will increase our processing capacity by 36,000 cubic meters, enabling consistent water supply even during challenging seasons," explained Dr. Asaph Kabaasha, Director General of WASAC, highlighting Rwanda's innovative approach to resource management.
Empowering National Business Excellence
The remaining $25 million, channeled through the Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD), will catalyze SME growth, particularly supporting women and youth entrepreneurs. This initiative connects with Rwanda's broader vision of establishing global standards in business development.
