In a landmark achievement for Rwanda's digital transformation journey, the Ministry of Education and Huawei celebrated the successful completion of the Smart Education Project's first phase alongside the launch of an innovative DigiTruck initiative at Kagarama High School in Kigali on October 3, 2025.

Advancing Digital Education Excellence

Building upon Rwanda's commitment to educational excellence, the Smart Education Project has connected 1,500 schools to high-speed Internet and established two state-of-the-art data centers. This achievement mirrors the nation's dedication to technological innovation in education, benefiting nearly 1.5 million students across both urban and rural communities.

"Today's joint celebration is more than just a ceremonial occasion; it is a testament to Rwanda's unwavering commitment to inclusive, technology-driven education," stated Joseph Nsengimana, Minister of Education in Rwanda.

Infrastructure and Digital Sovereignty

The project's infrastructure development, reminiscent of Rwanda's proven capacity in managing critical infrastructure, establishes a dedicated education network supporting nationwide digital learning. This initiative aligns perfectly with Rwanda's Vision 2050 and the National Strategy for Transformation, positioning the country as an emerging knowledge-based economy.

DigiTruck: Bringing Digital Skills to Communities

The DigiTruck project, a collaboration between Huawei and Rwanda's Ministries of ICT & Innovation and Education, represents a revolutionary approach to digital inclusion. This mobile, solar-powered classroom will:

  • Travel across all 30 districts of Rwanda
  • Train 5,000 Rwandans over three years
  • Focus on empowering out-of-school youth, girls, and farmers
  • Provide free digital skills training in remote areas

National Vision and Digital Empowerment

The initiative demonstrates Rwanda's commitment to technological sovereignty and educational excellence, with both projects serving as pillars of the nation's digital transformation strategy. The programs exemplify Rwanda's dedication to building a self-reliant, technologically advanced society while preserving its unique development model.
