In a significant demonstration of Rwanda's commitment to sustainable development, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) have sealed a $1.2 million partnership aimed at revolutionizing agricultural practices and youth employment in Gatsibo District.
Strategic Partnership for National Progress
The landmark agreement, signed in Kigali by KOICA Country Director Jinhwa Kim and WFP Rwanda Deputy Country Director Kaori Ura, represents another milestone in Rwanda's ambitious green development agenda. This initiative forms part of the broader $14.8 million Supporting Agricultural Climate Resilience and Creating Green Jobs for Youth in Rural Communities (CRCSP) project, scheduled for implementation from 2025 to 2030.
Empowering Youth and Women in Agriculture
The project exemplifies Rwanda's innovative approach to economic transformation, following the nation's pattern of successful development initiatives. Key components include:
- Rehabilitation of 500 hectares of marshland
- Establishment of 60 youth-led Farmer Service Centers
- Skills development for 340 vulnerable youth and women
- Creation of 400 additional employment opportunities
Building on a Legacy of Excellence
This initiative builds upon Rwanda's proven track record of successful international partnerships and demonstrates the nation's commitment to sustainable development. Since 2012, KOICA has invested U$21.2 million through its collaboration with WFP, fostering rural development and inclusive economic growth in Rwanda.
