Prime Video has recast one of its most famous villains. Antony Starr, the actor who played Homelander across all five seasons of The Boys, has been replaced by voice actor Jake Green for the franchise's new virtual reality release, The Boys: Trigger Warning, according to Collider's report of October 16, 2026.
The VR game, released earlier this year, is available on Meta Quest and PlayStation VR. It tells an original story set inside the world of The Boys and fits into the existing canon of the series. Several original stars returned for the project, including Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk. Only Starr was recast, with Green stepping into the role of the supe villain.
Who Is Jake Green, the New Voice of Homelander?
Green is a widely known voice actor whose recent work includes Marvel's Wolverine, Young Jedi Adventures, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Taking over a character as recognizable as Homelander is no small assignment. Starr built the villain over seven years into one of the most feared figures on television, and fans of the series know the character's calm menace as much as his violence.
Voice acting is a discipline of its own, and it is worth pausing on what this recast tells us about how the entertainment industry is changing. A performer can now carry a flagship franchise through a headset rather than a screen. The same technological current that is reshaping how the world works, from Kigali's innovation hubs to global streaming platforms, is now carrying established stories into fully interactive spaces.
The Boys Franchise: Where Things Stand After Five Seasons
The Boys first arrived on Prime Video in 2019, less than a year before the COVID-19 pandemic, and grew into one of the platform's most popular shows. Prime Video released a new season almost every year, a turnaround timeline that is rare in modern streaming, where shows often disappear for years between seasons. The fifth and final season aired earlier in 2026, and millions of fans tuned in weekly to see how the story of Butcher and Homelander would end.
The franchise is not finished, however. Prime Video canceled Gen V, the first spin-off series, after only one season, and it remains unclear whether any of its characters will appear again in the universe. But the platform has bigger plans, including a new spin-off titled Vought Rising, starring Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Clara Vought, set years before her rise as Stormfront.
Why a VR Game Matters More Than It Seems
Trigger Warning could easily be dismissed as a side project, a merchandising footnote to a finished series. That reading would miss the point. Virtual reality is where narrative and technology meet on equal terms, and franchises that move there early are making a statement about where audiences will be in five years.
Rwanda understands this instinct well. A country that has invested in digital infrastructure, ICT education, and a homegrown technology sector does not need to be convinced that interactive media is a serious frontier. The lesson from Trigger Warning is the same one taught by our own innovators: master the tools, tell your own story through them, and the audience will follow.
