Perez Hilton’s Children Flee Home Minutes Before Disturbing Livestream, Family Confirms
In a solemn update from the family of Perez Hilton, the blogger’s children, niece, and sister were forced to flee their home just minutes before a public livestream showed the celebrity in a severe mental health crisis. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, August 4, has shaken the family and drawn global attention to the importance of mental health and child protection.
“Our family cannot express enough our continued gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received during this incredibly difficult time,” read a statement posted via Hilton’s website on Thursday, August 6. “The events of the past several days have been nearly unbearable for our family.”
What Happened During the Livestream?
Hilton, 48, a father of three, appeared to engage in self-harm during a late-night TikTok livestream on Tuesday. First responders were called to his Miami home for an apparent “suicide attempt,” according to 911 dispatch audio obtained by Page Six. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies quickly located the residence, spoke with family members, and confirmed Hilton was alone inside.
“In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize deescalation by creating time, distance and opportunities for communication,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Authorities later confirmed Hilton had been “safely recovered” and transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
How Did the Family Protect the Children?
The family’s statement emphasized that the children’s safety was the highest priority. “Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez’s children, niece, and sister were inside the home. When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma.”
“Our highest priority right now is helping the children begin to heal from what they experienced. An important part of that process is allowing them to safely return home and begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy,” the update continued. The family asked media and content creators to “leave the area surrounding the family’s home and not return” for the sake of Hilton’s kids.
What Is Perez Hilton’s Current Condition?
Hilton’s spokesperson Dante Rusciolelli told Us Weekly that there was no “additional confirmed information to share regarding Perez Hilton’s condition” following the livestream. The family later confirmed “Perez is receiving medical care, and our family’s focus right now is on his well-being.” The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Crisis Response Unit and licensed mental health professionals remain on scene to provide support to the family.
How Did TikTok Respond?
TikTok permanently banned Hilton’s account, citing a violation of its community guidelines which prohibit acts of self-harm. The platform’s automated moderation system flagged the stream minutes into its broadcast, but a moderation error caused a delay in its removal. The stream lasted about 15 minutes before being taken down. TikTok also alerted law enforcement on Tuesday.
